Our Story

Background

Hey there! Meet Destiny Hagood, the owner/creator of yourDestiny Essentials! She is first, a christian woman who loves to laugh, live & grow! One of her favorite scriptures is Romans 12: 1-2.

Destiny has a Bachelors of Science in Photojournalism and minored in the Theatre Arts. She was the women’s captain of her Alma Mater, ACU’s, step team SHADES, joined a sorority and was a member of various chapel praise teams while attending Abilene Christian University!

Her day job consists of working in the entertainment field, especially talent, where she has had the pleasure of working closely with Steve Harvey, Snoop Dogg, Luke Bryan, Katie Perry, Lionel Richie and much more. She booked her first show, Little Big Shots on NBC with Steve Harvey, and never looked back. Being in the world of TV has taught her so many lessons, and has helped her to grow into who Destiny is.

  • My story began when I first transitioned into “going natural.”  By natural I mean, wearing the hair I was born with without any additives or chemicals and not wearing anything that covered up the natural beauty I already possessed. I knew that I wanted to live a healthier lifestyle, inside and out.  In order to do that, I had to work on my own self-care and self-love.  During this transition, I conducting research on various types of ingredients that can be used on my hair to ‘tame’ it.
  • The first ingredient that popped up was, shea butter.  I didn’t really know what shea butter was, how to use it or where it even came from.  I had an idea on how BIG it was in Africa, but in my community (Compton, California), all we had were the local beauty supply stores that carried VAST amounts of processed and synthetic hair care products. Not saying these are bad, but I needed a fresh start with my natural journey.  I stayed on Pinterest and YouTube to learn all I could to make my own products with ALL of the natural ingredients and benefits of my choosing.  I made my first hair butter and it did wonders for my natural 4a-4b hair.  I continued making these for myself, until some of my fellow  church members found out, (we all know church folk).  A couple of members wanted to try and pay me for making their hair products, as well. I never thought of turning my new hobby into a business for myself, but with enough love and support, I JUMPED in.  Two months later, I had my first vending event and SOLD OUT. My emotions were all over the place and I knew that this was something I could carry out and create generational wealth for my family and future children. yourDestiny Essentials was born!!  One year later, I have a name, 10 products for hair & body, my certification in natural skin care, a variety of vending events under my name and the self-love I had been seeking since college.

SHEA BUTTER – Food for skin. Fuel for thought.

Millions of women across Africa have employment and peace of mind thanks to Shea butter. For the women in rural Ghana, making this luscious moisturizer also counts as their main source of income. Our Shea butter is mostly produced by widows and all these women share a common dream – to send their children and grandchildren to school.

ETHICAL TRADE – The Beauty of a Balanced Business.

FairTaleGhana was built to embrace two goals: to support village women in earning fair wages and spread the magic of raw African Shea butter. We are on a mission to connect producers and consumers. We believe in fair business where both parties take home the benefits from their product. Our clients get the best, 100% natural products and the butter makers receive their fair share.

Our partners, women in Bolga, own their company thanks to NGO Mondo who guided them establish it. And women get paid justly. This is the reason why our Shea is more expensive. And it stays that way.

We believe that every action – small or big – have a significant impact in making the world better. We are ready to prove that ethical success is possible.

SERIOUSLY SUSTAINABLE – We love our planet.

Our factory in Ghana is located in the best place in the world for the wild Karité trees to grow. It is a clean environment, free of chemicals and pesticides. This means that FairTaleGhana’s Shea butter is also free of anything dodgy.
